Frequently Asked Questions (FAQS)

Where is Tanzania Located?

Tanzania is located in East Africa, bordered by Kenya and Uganda to the north, Rwanda, Burundi, and the Democratic Republic of Congo to the west, and Zambia, Malawi, and Mozambique to the south. To the east, the country is flanked by the Indian Ocean. The nation boasts 22 national parks, covering approximately 15% of its land area.

To reach Tanzania, visitors typically fly into Julius Nyerere International Airport in Dar es Salaam or Kilimanjaro International Airport near Arusha, the safari capital. From these hubs, you can fly or drive between national parks, making the region accessible for all safari routes.

To travel comfortably in Tanzania, make sure to have the necessary travel documents, including a valid passport, a Tanzania visa, travel insurance, and required vaccination certificates. For convenience, it’s recommended to apply for a Tanzania e-visa in advance, as visa-on-arrival services may have long queues.

In addition, be sure to bring essential items, such as:

  • Insect repellent
  • Sunscreen
  • Lightweight clothing
  • Comfortable, closed-toe shoes with good traction
  • A wide-brim hat
  • Binoculars for wildlife viewing
  • Camera and extra memory cards
  • For ease during your trip, carry some Tanzanian Shillings for local payments and tipping.

The length of your stay depends on what you’d like to explore. While a short 2-3 day safari can offer a glimpse of Tanzania’s wonders, a 7-10 day safari allows for a deeper dive into the country’s landscapes, wildlife, and cultural heritage. A longer stay provides a more relaxed pace, allowing you to fully appreciate the unique beauty Tanzania has to offer.

Opt for neutral tones like khaki and earth shades, which blend well with the surroundings and keep you comfortable in the heat.

Tanzania is a year-round destination, but the dry season from June to October is ideal for wildlife viewing. For birdwatchers, the rainy seasons in April-May and November are perfect, as migratory birds are in abundance. The best time for the Serengeti’s Great Migration is between June and July.

The Great Migration is one of the most awe-inspiring natural events, as over 1.5 million wildebeest, along with hundreds of thousands of zebras and gazelles, make their way across the Serengeti. The migration peaks in June and July, making these months ideal for witnessing this phenomenon.

Tanzania is a paradise for birdwatchers, home to over 1,100 species. Tarangire, Lake Manyara, Ngorongoro Crater, and the Serengeti are particularly rich in birdlife, offering incredible opportunities for bird enthusiasts.
